Chesterfield VINELink Release Coverage
Virginia VINE through VINELink is a specific-person custody search and notification service. It is not Chesterfield County's jail roster or release archive. The Chesterfield Sheriff's annual report states that jail information flows through systems that include VINE, which supports use of Virginia VINE when a person is or was held at the local jail. The record remains tied to the source agency reporting the event.
Coverage must be read by custodian. Chesterfield County Jail and participating Virginia jail sources can report local custody events through VINE. VADOC institutions, Unit 13, Chesterfield Women's CCAP, and state supervision use VADOC records and a separate state-prison notification layer called NAAVI. A local VINE registration should not be assumed to register the user for VADOC's notifications. BOP federal custody is outside VINELink, and an ICE custody question belongs with ICE.

Search Chesterfield VINELink Records
Use the most stable identifier available. VINELink permits a name search and may offer an offender or booking identifier in the live interface. Name order matters, and common names can return more than one result. Do not select a record merely because the spelling looks close. Compare the agency, available biographical details, custody location, and identifier before opening or registering against it.

The live record may display the fields supplied by its reporting source. Chesterfield research verifies the categories below as useful reading points, not a promise that every record has the same layout. Never infer a bond condition, court result, or community destination from a status label that does not say those things.

A “released” or “no longer in custody” result can corroborate that the source reported an end or change to its custody. It does not state every legal consequence. The person could have bonded out with a pending case, completed a local term, transferred to VADOC or Riverside, or moved under another lawful hold. Ask the source agency for the existing release or transfer record when the distinction matters.
Register Chesterfield Release Alerts
Register only after confirming the correct person and reporting agency. From the selected record, use the notification or registration option shown by the live interface. Available channels can include telephone, email, text, or an app. Enter the destination carefully so a custody notice does not go to the wrong number or address.

- Choose an offered channel. Use telephone, email, text, or app only when the current interface presents that choice.
- Enter and verify the destination. Recheck each digit or character and complete the prompts.
- Follow the phone PIN prompt. Telephone registration may require creation of a four-digit PIN to confirm receipt. Do not assume every channel uses it.
- Complete digital confirmation. Email, text, or app registration may require a link, code, or account confirmation.
- Retain the confirmation. Save the registration result and keep the source agency's contact information available.
VINE is a notice service. It is not the legal custodian and cannot replace a signed release paper, Sheriff's JMS record, VADOC artifact, or court order. If a notice arrives, note its time and wording. Then ask the reporting agency whether it means community release, transfer, or another custody event.
Keep the registration confirmation and the source agency shown on the selected record. A telephone registration may ask for a four-digit PIN so the recipient can confirm an automated call, but the live prompts control whether a PIN is required. Email, text, or app registration may instead use a link, code, or account check. Registration for a local jail source does not automatically follow the person into VADOC custody, and a state notification enrollment does not replace local-jail VINE.
VINE and VADOC Alerts Differ
Virginia's state-prison notification structure adds an important Chesterfield-specific distinction. The Sheriff's systems send local jail data into VINE workflows. VADOC separately says its NAAVI victim-notification service is not the same registration as local-jail VINE. A person at Central Virginia Correctional Unit No. 13 or Chesterfield Women's CCAP is therefore checked through VADOC's locator and state records, with notification registration matched to VADOC's current process.
VADOC describes an “Advanced release” notice as an anticipated date, typically sent about 30 days beforehand and updated if that date changes. Its “Release date” notice means the person is no longer in VADOC custody and notifications stop. Those terms belong to VADOC notification practice. They should not be imposed on a Chesterfield local-jail VINE record unless the live source itself uses them.

A VADOC release date shown before departure is prospective. The final release notice or release document is stronger evidence that the state custody event occurred.
Read Chesterfield Custody Changes
A custody event has to be read in sequence. At Chesterfield County Jail, a court or bond decision can authorize release before Intake and Release staff verify the paperwork and complete out-processing. The county's Jail Operations page says that process can take up to two hours. A VINE notice during this period may be timely, but the jail remains the source for whether the person has physically exited at the side gate beside the Magistrate's Office.
A transfer creates a different sequence. Someone can leave Chesterfield County Jail for Riverside Regional Jail, enter VADOC custody, or move under another lawful hold. The first agency's custody ends, yet the person has not returned to the community. Compare the VINELink source agency with the next likely custodian. Riverside should be checked through its own custody and VINE source. State intake should be checked through VADOC after allowing for its daily update cycle.

Court records add legal context. A bond, dismissal, sentence, or other order may explain why a custodian acted, but the docket usually does not record the moment a person walked out. A VINE event adds timely notice. The agency record closes the loop. This three-source comparison is especially useful when the alert wording does not reveal whether the event was a community release or a handoff.
Confirm Chesterfield VINELink Results
VINELink has firm boundaries. It does not cover a federal BOP sentence, and it is not a permanent historical archive of every fully discharged person. It cannot guarantee instant data from every source. A transfer may appear as a custody change, while a court order may be entered before the jail finishes release processing. Never convert a missing record into proof that a person is free.

The Virginia State Police registry is limited to people with a statutory registration duty and is not a general release-notification substitute.
Note: A custody alert is strongest when paired with the source agency's final event record and the court or corrections authority behind it.
